4 Performances with / avec TC2.0

All photos , taken with Sony A7RIV and without post processing are available in full size in the following Flickr albums: Sony 600mm F4 GM + TC2.0

  • The SEL20TC (680 euros) has a weight of 207gr and add 27mm height and add on top of the the Sony 600mm F4, we get a 1200mm F8
  • Considering the focal length you need to have a least 1/2000 sec and  with a heavy tripod

The tests were made on a Sony A7RIV, the most demanding sensor with 61 Mpix

With the TC 2.0 the performances are still excellent in the centre at F8 but closing down the aperture you get a “very good”

The major issue being the ISO going to the roof for moving subject where you need at least 1/2000 sec to avoid any blur movement  and 1/1000 for static subject.

Except with bright sun you quickly go to ISO6400-12800 which is quite grainy on a A7RIV

So to use mainly with big sunny weather

  • Color rendering is still very good,
  • The background blur is a little bit less soft with the TC2
  • Bokeh balls are mostly the same : very good but not excellent like on the Sony 400mm F2.8 GM OSS

  • The AF performance start degrading on the A7RIV with the TC2.0, on A9 there is no issue
  • A speed of min 1/2000s is recommended on A7RIV and 1/1000s on A9

    hi
but why dont you show us flying objects/photos with less iso ?
and why is the crop with the duck and woman so blurry ?
at this distance any 1000 $ lense is sharper then this one…

so it is a problem of the automatic mode , which pushes the iso too high.
a mode between 1/1000 and 1/2000 is missing?
I think there should be one or two between.
    also 1/2500 1/3000 , 3500 etc……

perhaps the ISO Steps must be changed , too.
