2 Optical Performances
2.1 Sharpness / Piqué
The tests were made on a Sony A7RIV, the most demanding Sony sensor with 61 Mpix
The performance are excellent wide open but benefit from a little increase in sharpness if you close it at F5.6 then it is outstanding

2.2 Vignetting & Distorsion / Chromatic Aberrations / Flare
- Vignetting is present at F4 but extremely low
- There is a very little amount of pincushion distorsion
- No Chromatic Aberrations
- Ressitance to flare is very good
Lightroom lens profile is correcting distorsion and lens fall off automatically
2.2 Vignettage , Distorsion , Aberrations Chromatiques , Flare
- Il y a un léger vignettage à F4 mais très faible
- Il y a une très faible distorsion en coussinet
- Pas d’aberrations chromatiques
- Très bonne résistance au flare

2.3 Bokeh & Color rendition / Bokeh et rendu des couleurs
- With the compression effect from the 600mm coupled with F4 you get astonishing 3D effect and a completely blurry background
- The Bokeh balls are perfectly rounded and smooth
- The Color rendition is just superb
- Avec l’effet de compression apporté par un 600mm couplé à une ouverture de F4 on obtient des effets 3D saisissants et des fonds complètements flous
- Les ronds de Bokeh sont parfaitement ronds et doux
- Le rendu des couleurs est excellent

2.4 AF Performance / Performance autofocus
- Paired with the A9 : AF performance is astonishing
- With the A7RIV : very good but well below, A9
- The A9 is also allowing for shutter speed up to 1/32000 which allow to freeze movement of animals in actions (see below dog pictures)
- Combiné avec le A9 la performance de l’autofocus est tout simplement parfaite
- Le A9 permet également d’utiliser des vitesses jusqu’à 1/32000sec et de figer le mouvement d’animaux, oiseaux en pleine action (voir ci dessous la photo des chiens)
- Avec le A7RIV la performance est très bonne mais bien en deçà du A9
2.5 Comparison with sony 200-600mm
The Sony FE 200-600mm F5.6-6.3 G OSS is also providing excellent image quality but the lower aperture means less blurry background and higher ISO so unless you have perfect sunny conditions The Sony FE 600mm F4 will always give better results. It also has a much faster AF.
The Sony FE 200-600mm keep an advantage for easiest framing (as you can start at 200mm to frame and quickly zoom , whereas you often loose your subject with the 600mm) and in term of weight and size (and price !)
Le Sony FE 200-600mm F5.6-6.3 G OSS fournit également une image d’excellentes qualité mais sa plus faible ouverture implique moins de flou d’arrière plan et une montée en ISO plus rapide, donc à moins d’avoir des conditions de luminosité parfaite le Sony 600mm F4 donnera toujours de meilleurs résultats. Le 600mm a aussi un autofocus nettement plus véloce
Le Sony FE 200-600mm garde un avantage pour la facilité du cadrage (on commence à 200mm et on zoome rapidement, alors qu’au 600mm on cherche souvent son sujet) , ainsi que pour l’encombrement , le poids et bien sur le prix !
