The build construction is very good , with the lens all in metal. There is a depth of field scale

Both or aperture ring and focusing ring have teeth for use of follow focus systems. It is clearly a lens for videomaker

The Aperture is measured here in T stop = real light transmission with a T1.4 being slightly better than a F1.4

La qualité de construction est très bonne, l’objectif est tout en métal. . Il y a une échelle de profondeur de champ

Cette optique est clairement conçue pour les vidéastes avec ses deux bagues crantées pour les systèmes de follow-focus

L’ouverture est graduée en facteur de transmission T. Une ouverture de  T1.4 sera meilleure que une ouverture F1.4

• Centre : good at T1.4 , very Good from T2 to T8 , T11 good, T16 diffraction
• Corners : average at T1.4 , good at T2 , very good from T2.8 to T8, good T11, diffraction T16t

The SLR Magic give good results in video with soft background blur , there is a vintage color cast (you may like it or not)

Controls are well designed for video with click less aperture and teeth for an eventual follow focus on the aperture and focusing rings

Le SLR Magic donne de bons résultats en vidéo ave cu flou d’arrière plan doux, il a une colorimétrie vintage

Les bagues sont conçues pour la vidéo et peuvent être utilisées avec des systèmes de follow focus. La bague d’ouverture est sans clics.

5 Conclusion

The SLR Magic 35mm T1.4 (660 euros) is a nice Cine Lens for APSC sensor

Pros

• Very good build quality
• Clickless aperture ring for video
• Focusing ring and Aperture ring compatible with follow focus
• Good sharpness wide open and very good when stopped down on the entire field
• Very good background blur

Cons

• High distorsion
• High CA
• Low resistance to flare
• Vintage color cast
• High Price

Globally it is a lens well designed for video with its own signature i.e. very good sharpness but with flare and vintage color cast. If that what you are looking for creative video you will be very satisfied. If you are looking for a more all around lens with natural color rendering  or for reportage, this may not be the best choice

5 Conclusion

Le SLR Magic 35mm T1.4 (660 euros) est une agréable optique Cinéma pour capteur APSC

• Très bonne qualité de construction
• Bague d’ouverture sans clics pour la vidéo
• Bague de mise au point et d’ouverture crantées compatible saves les systèmes de follow focus
• Bon piqué à pleine ouverture et très bon des que l’on ferme sur tout le champ
• Très beau flou d’arrière plan

Contre

• Distorsion élevée
• Aberrations chromatiques élevées
• Faible résistance au flare
• Colorimétrie vintage
• Prix élevé

Globalement c’est une optique bien conçue pour la vidéo avec sa propre signature : très bon piqué , couleurs vintage et effets de flare. Si ce type de rendu créatif vous plait vous serez satisfait. Si vous cherchez une optique plus neutre avec des couleurs naturelles ou pour du reportage , ce ne sera pas le meilleur choix
