The Brightin star 11mm f2.8 II is the new version of the Brightin Star 11mm F2.8 Fisheye

This fisheye is offering a 180° angle of view diagonally on a full frame sensor with a stereographic projection that maintain angles  and the objects retain their general true shape even near the corner of the image.

The captured image has no black edge in the corners = full frame fisheye image

The lens is is quite dense and feel heavy in the hand compared to its medium size. The build quality is very good. The less is fall manual with no EXIF transmission

The aperture ring is clickless

Le Brightin Star 11mm F2.8 II est la nouvelle version avec du Brightin Star 11mm F2.8 Fisheye

Ce fisheye offre un angle de vue de 182° sur la diagonale d’un capteur plein format , donc une projection dite stéréographique qui maintient les angles et respecte la forme générale des objects même sur les bords de l’image

L’image capturée n’a pas de coins noirs, elle couvre bien l’entièreté du capteur

L’objectif est assez dense et lourd mais il est de taille moyenne. La qualité de construction est très bonne

La bague d’ouverture est sans clics, le pare soleil est inamovible

  • Video results are very good, with very good sharpness , nice background blur and a very good color rendering. The focus breathing is low

The new Brightin star II is a little bit lighter and less expensive than the V1, there est being rather similar. The Brightin Star have a similar price to the other Chinese lens and its weight is similar to TTArtisan or 7 artisans version. The AstrHori is the heaviest and the one with the best build quality. It is the only one also with the least number of aperture blades

Le Brightin Star II est un peu plus léger et est moins cher que la V1. Les Brightin Star ont un prix similaire aux autres fisheye chinois leur poids sont dans la moyenne. Le AstrHori est le plus lourd du lot mais aussi celui avec la meilleure qualité de construction. C’est celui avec le moins de lames de diaphragme

5.2 Sharpness / Piqué

The new Brightin Star II is a clear improvement over the V1 The Samyang 12mm F2.8 ED AS NCS Fisheye stays the best in term of pure sharpness at F2.8 to F5.6 thanks to its excellent borders , the AstrHori / TTArtisan / Brightin Star II / 7 Aertisans II are the best with aperture closed down at F8/F11. The Brightin Star V1 is #4

Le Samyang 12mm F2.8 ED AS NCS Fisheye reste le meilleur en terme de piqué de F2.8 à F5.6 grâce a son très bon piqué dans les coins. Le AstrHori , BRightin Star II , 7Artisans II et le TTArtisan sont les meilleur quand l’ouverture est à F8/F11. Le Brightin Star V1 est #4 .

  • The TTArtisan / Brightin Star show the best bokeh balls , Samyang the worst one wide open with some onion rings, closed down the AstrHori show pentagons so it is the less good one as of F4
  • In term of color rendition the AstrHori is the best one, the Samyang is the less good one

As you can see from the below the TTArtisan 11mm F2.8 Fisheye is covering less than the Samyang 12mm F2.8 ED AS NCS Fisheye or the AstrHori, so it is more a 13mm than a 11mm. Also the 7 Artisans 10mm F2.8 Fisheye is more like the 12mm. The Brightin star 11mm is larger than the TTArtisan 11mm

The Brightin Star 11mm F2.8 II Fisheye (299 euros) is a clear improvement over the V1 with better sharpness in the centre overall. It is a nice easy to use full frame fisheye lens. It is very well build and has good ergonomics.

Its performance are good overall with excellence and in the centre and very good sharpness on the entire field as of F8, very good color rendition, nice sunstars. . Its weaknesses are the sharpness in the corners between F2.8 to F5.6 being only good on 61Mpix, very high vignetting, resistance to flare with some halo

Alternatives

7 Artisans 10mm F2.8 Fisheye II (300 euros) show very good performance in term of sharpness , color rendition and resistance to flare

Samyang 12mm F2.8 ED AS NCS Fisheye (250 euros – second hand) stays the champion in term of sharpness as of F2.8 and sunstars effects but is build quality and ergonomics are lower. Color rendition, bokeh and resistance to flare are good to very good but a bit less than AstrHori

The AstrHori 12mm F2.8 Fisheye (370 euros) and best when used at F8/F11, but if you look on top at Resistance to flare, Background blur, color rendition, build quality, the AstrHori is better in those areas

TTArtisan 11mm F2.8 Fisheye is the cheapest (239 euros) , the lightest and the smallest but is sharpness is a bit less good and its resistance flare well below the 2 others

Le Brightin Star 11mm F2.8 II Fisheye (299 euros) est une nette amélioration par rapport à la V1 avec globalement un meilleur piqué au centre. C’est est une bonne optique fisheye plein format. La qualité de fabrication et l’ergonomie sont très bonnes (ouverture sans clics et bon amorti de la bague de mise au point)

Les performances globales sont bonnes. Avec un très bon piqué sur tout le champ à F8 , un très bon rendu des couleurs, et de beaux effets d’étoiles. Ses points faibles sont le piqué dans les coins entre F2.8 et F5.6 (seulement bon) , le fort vignettage , la résistance au flare qui pourrait être meilleure

Le 7 Artisans 10mm F2.8 Fisheye II (300 euros) montre de très bonne performances en terme de piqué, résistance au flare et rendu des couleurs

Le TTArtisan 11mm F2.8 Fisheye (249 euros) est beaucoup plus petit , léger et moins cher, son piqué est légèrement moins bon et la résistance au flare nettement moins bonne
