1 Presentation

Thanks to Degreef & Partner , I could test the Leofoto Magic arms for tripod  AM-2L & AM-4  

Using magic arms on a tripod allows to attach external screen or microphone without needing to fix them to your camera or mount it in a video cage

Grâce à  Degreef & Partner , J’ai pu tester les bras magiques Leofoto AM-2L et AM-4

Les bras magiques pour trépied permettent de fixer un micro, ou un écran externe directement sur celui ci pour éviter d’utiliser une cage vidéo et/ou pour avoir plus d’espace autour du boitier

Leofoto Magic arm AM-2L

• Weight : 223g
• Load capacity : 2Kg
• Length : 215mm

The Magic Arm AM-2L is very well built and allow for a lot of flexibility , it can support  easily a microphone or an 5-7″ external screen.

For a more heavy  device like an Atomos Ninja V external recorder I would use more the AM-4 arm that can support up to 3 kg

The key operation to have a sturdy system is to use the provided Allen key to tie the arm to the tripod, just screwing it with your hand won’t make the job and the arm may move

Globalement l’ensemble est de très bonne qualité tout en métal, solide, très modulaire , il peut supporter facilement un micro ou un écran externe de 5-7″

Pour un materiel plus lourd comme un enregistreur Atomos Ninja V, j’utiliserai plutôt le bras AM-4 qui supporte jusque 3kg

La principale opération pour avoir un ensemble solide et de fixer le bras avec une clé Allen un serrage manuel n’étant pas assez puissant pour immobiliser le bras magique

Leofoto Magic Versa Arm AM-4

• Weight : 166g
• Load capacity : 3Kg
• Length : 137mm (folded) to 250mm (unfold)

The Magic Arm AM-4 is very well built and allows for a limited flexibility vs the AM2L but  is capable of supporting 3kg instead of 2Kg, so it can holds heavy device like like an Atomos external recorder 

The key operation to have a sturdy system is to use the provided Allen key to tie the arm to the tripod, just screwing it with your hand won’t make the job and the arm may move

• Longueur étendue : 250 mm / Longueur plié : 137 mm

Globalement l’ensemble est de très bonne qualité tout en métal et très solide, la modularité est limitée par rapport au AM-2L mais la charge supportée est de 3kg au lieu de 2kg, donc on peut sans problème l’utiliser avec un matériel plus lourd comme un enregistreur Atomos Ninja V

La principale opération pour avoir un ensemble solide et de fixer le bras avec une clé Allen un serrage manuel n’étant pas assez puissant pour immobiliser le bras magique

2.1 Basic Operations / Fonctions de bases

• Mount the magic Arm on the tripod or on the ballhead
• Fix it by using the Allen key
• Mount your microphone , external screen
• Position the Arm in the right position and lock with the levers

The results is very stable and give great flexibility to arrange the position of your accessories

• Montez le système sur la colonne centrale ou la rotule
• Fixer avec la clé Allen
• Montez le micro, écran sur le bras
• Positionner le bras magique son vos besoin et serrez les écrous de serrage

L’ensemble est très stable et permet une grande liberté dans le positionnement de vos accessoires

3 Conclusion

The Leofoto Magic arms AM-2L (55 euros) & AM-4 (69 euros) are solid, well designed accessories for your tripod and will ease your life of videographer by allowing to move away from the camera some accessories
