1 Presentation

1.1 Introduction

The Brightin Star 10mm F5.6 is a pancake lens for APSC and an exact copy of the Pergear 10mm F5.6 that I have already tested.

I made deep examination of lens specs, appearance and took exactly same photos with both and did not notice any difference. Hence the rest of the review is the copy of the Pergear 10mm F5.6

Après un examen poussé des spécifications, de l’apparence et des photos réalisées en parallèle avec les 2 objectifs aucune différence n’a été notée. Donc le reste du test est une copie conforme du test du Pergear 10mm F5.6

The Brightin Star 10mm F5.6 is a fixed aperture lens , in a pancake format with only 30mm length. It is not belonging to the category of cap lens like the Pergear 10mm F8 (which is only 10mm length) that have in general a lot of color shift.

Its simple design include a focus ring that you will mostly set to infinity except for subject closer than 50cm where you may want to focus

The build quality is good. The Lens cap is all in metal and sliding gently on the lens. The lens has a built in lens hood

Le Brightin Star 10mm F5.6 est une optique avec ouverture fixe au format pancake avec seulement 30mm d’épaisseur. Elle n’appartient pas au à la catégorie des objectifs bouchons comme le Pergear 10mm F8 qui ne fait que 10mm d’épaisseur, catégorie qui en général présente de grosses dérives colorimétriques

Son design simple inclus une bague dé mise au point qui sera la plupart du temps réglée sur l’infini. On ne fera la mise au point que pour les sujets à moins de 50cm

La qualité de construction est bonne. Le capuchon d’objectif est tout en métal et s’enfile sur l’objectif qui a un pare soleil intégré

2 Optical performances / Performances Optiques

2.1 Sharpness / Piqué

Surprisingly you get excellent results in the centre with this lens when with focus set to infinity, borders are average. Results for closer objects are also very good

Les résultats obtenus avec la mise au point à l’infini sont excellent au centre et moyen sur les bords. Les résultats pour les objets proches sont tout aussi bon au centre

2.2 Vignetting , chromatic aberrations , distorsion, flare

• Vignetting is present but can be easily correcte Dif you wish so
• Distorsion is very strong with a fisheye pattern
• Resistance to flare is average (with some contrast loss)
• Chromatic aberrations are present even at this aperture of F5.6

2.2 Vignettage, aberrations chromatiques, distorsion, flare

• Le vignettage est présent et peut perte facilement corrigé si vous le voulez
• La distorsion est forte avec un effet fisheye
• La résistance au flare est moyenne (avec une perte de contraste)
• Les aberrations chromatiques sont présentes même avec cette ouverture de F5.6

2.3 Bokeh / Color rendition – Bokeh / Rendu des Couleurs

• No big Bokeh balls to be expected with such a focal length and aperture
• You can get some background blur when focusing at min focusing distance
• The contrast is very good
• Color rendering is very good and do not require correction
• Pas de grand ronds de bokeh avec une telle focale et ouverture
• A distance min de mise au point on peut obtenir un peu de flou d’arrière plan
• Le contraste est très bon
• Le rendu des couleurs est très bon et ne nécessite pas de correction

3 Comparison with other wide angle small lenses

There are not a lot of lenses of 10mm : you will find a lot of fisheye 7.5mm F2.8 or some 12mm, around 10mm you have

The only other compact and cheap 10mm is the Pergear 10mm F8, other are much more bulkier and more expensive

Il n’y a pas beaucoup d’optiques APSC de 10mmm , il y a pas mal De 7,5mm fish-eye et de 12mm , autour de 10mm on a

La seule autre optique compacte et légère est le Pergear 10mm F8, les autres sont biens plus chers et encombrants

• Pergear 10mm F8 (fisheye cap lens) – 79$
• Samyang 10mm F2.8 ED AS NCS CS (519 euros)
• Laowa 9mm F2.8 Zero D (620 euros)

There is a huge difference of price and weight before the Pergear/Brightin Star and the others. The Pergear/Brightin Star are both fisheye like with significant distortion whereas the Laowa and Samyang are rectilinear have have a much larger aperture

The Brightin Star/ Pergear 10mm F5.6 are the one with the biggest distortion

Color rendering of the Pergear 10mm F8 is the worst one as there is lot of color shift in the border

The Samyang is the best for flare resistance , the Pergear are the worst in this respect

In the centre sharpness is the same but the Pergear have much weaker border performances

Il y a une énorme différence de prix et de poids entre les Pergear/ Brightin Star et les autres optiques. Les Pergear / Brightin Star sont tous les deux fisheye avec une grande distorsion tandis que le Laowa et le Samyang sont des optiques rectilinéaires avec une bien meilleure ouverture

Le Brightin Star / Pergear 10mm F5.6 sont ceux avec la distorsion la plus importante

Le rendu des couleurs est le moins bon sur le Pergear 10mm F8 qui a de grosses dérives colorimétriques sur les bords

Le Samyang est le meilleur en terme de résistance au flare , les Pergear sont les moins bons

En terme de piqué la performance au centre est identique mais les Pergear sont beaucoup moins bons sur les bords

• Results in vidéo are very good : very sharp , very good color rendering and unique perspective
• Les résultats en vidéo sont très bon , avec un très bon piqué, un très bon rendu des couleurs et une perpective unique

6 Conclusion

The Brightin Star 10mm F5.6 (80 euros ) is a lens very enjoyable to use. The perpective obtained in unique, the lens is very light, cheap, compact and easy to use. Color rendering is very good . Sharpness is excellent on most part of the frame. The only weaknesses are the borders sharpness, the sensitivity to flare and level of chromatic aberrations.

6 Conclusion

Le Brightin Star 10mm F5.6 (80 euros) est une optique très agréable à l’usage : légère bon marché, compacte et facile d’utilisation. La perspective obtenue est unique, le rendu des couleurs est très bon. Le piqué est excellent sur la plupart du champ. Les seules faiblesses sont au niveau du piqué sur les bords , la résistance au flare moyenne et le niveau d’aberrations chromatiques
