As all ultra wide angle you can’t put a filter on the front lens , but thanks to the lens hood you can screen a thin 77mm filter if needed

La qualité de construction est très bonne tout en métal. La bague d’ouverture est avec clics.

Comme tout les ultra grand angle on ne peut pas mettre de filtre sur la lentille frontale, mais grâce au pare soleil , l’optique permet d’utiliser un filtre fin de 77mm

The tests were mainly made on a Sony A7RV, with its 61 Mpix

Les tests ont été effectués principalement sur un Sony A7RV avec ses 61Mpix

2.1 Sharpness / Piqué

  • At short distance (<2m) there results are quite average, but a long distance it get better. The above results charts is made based on outdoor results
  • In the centre : the sharpness is good wide open and reach excellence at F5.6
  • Short to medium distance : Corners are bad and only reach good level at f5.6
  • Long distance : corners are average wide open and get very good at F6
  • Globally a below average performance
  • Les résultats à courte distance sont très moyens, mais cela s’améliore à longue distance
  • Au centre : le piqué est bon à pleine ouverture et atteint l’excellence à F5.6
  • A courte et moyenne distance : Les coins eux sont mauvais à pleine ouverture et n’atteignent que le grade bon à F5.6
  • A longue distance : les coins sont moyens à bon et deviennent très bon à F8

  • Vignetting is strong at F2.8 and disappears at F5,6
  • Distortion is very low 
  • Chromatic aberrations are low but present
  • Resistance to flare is bad with lot of halos
  • At F16 we can get some sunstars

  • Le vignettage est important à F2.8 et disparait seulement vers F5.6
  • La distorsion est très faible 
  • Les aberrations chromatiques sont faibles mais présentes

  • De beaux effets d’étoiles peuvent être obtenus vers F16

3 Video

  • In video we get nice results in term of sharpness, no distortion . The color rendition is good , resistance to flare is quite bad which produce a bit too much halos
  • Focus breathing is moderate

  • Bon résultats en vidéo avec un bon piqué, pas de distorsion. Le rendu des couleurs est bon, la résistance au flare est assez mauvaise ce qui produit de nombreux halos

6 Conclusion (English)

The TTArtisan 14mm F2.8 (219 euros) is a standard 14mm MF lens. Globally performance are good if you close down to F5.6/F8, no distortion, moderate focus breathing. Color rendition is good

The improvement points are the sharpness wide open specially in the corners, the corners sharpness in general, the bad resistance to flare

Alternatives

The Viltrox 15mm F4 Air at 199$ is cheaper, lighter, smaller and sharper and it has AF. it has a shorter min focusing distance that allow to have a real background blur and Bokeh balls

Le TTArtisan 14mm F2.8 (219 euros) est une optique 14mm f2.8 MF standard . Globalement les performances sont bonnes si on ferme à F5.6/F8, il n’y a pas de distorsion . Le rendu des couleurs est bon

Les points d’améliorations sont le piqué à pleine ouverture spécialement dans les coins et le piqué des coins en général, la mauvaise résistance au flare

Alternatives

Le Viltrox 15mm F4 Air a 199$ est moins cher, beaucoup plus léger et compact et nettement plus piqué et dispose de l’AF. De plus la distance min de mise au point est très courte ce qui lui permet d’avoir un vrai flou d’arrière plan et des ronds de bokeh
