The Sony FE200-600 is doing quite well in video with a reliable AF and with beautiful blurry background but usage of a tripod or a monopod is a must as you see from the shake of the below videos where I used the lens handled for all videos

Le Sony FE200-600 s’en sort bien en vidéo avec un AF assez fiable et de beaux flous d’arrières plans. Mais comme vous pouvez le constater sur la video ci dessous il sera plus sage d’adopter un monopole ou un bon trépied avec bonne rotule vidéo fluide

8 Conclusion

The Sony FE200-600 GM OSS F5.6-F6.3 (2100 euros) is an excellent telephoto lens with excellent performances for its price point and the first one of its class with internal zooming

It will be ideal for sports and animals shooters who can’t afford the Sony 400mm F2.8 GM or the Sony 600mm F4 GM (= most of us), and for those type of photos it will give better results than the Sony FE 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 GM both in term of sharpness and in term of usability thanks to its fantastic internal zooming 

Pay attention to the complementarity with your existing lenses , if you have only a Sony 24-70 F2.8 GM or a Sony 24-105mm F4 you may have a gap between 70 and 200mm you may want to bridge with a Sony 70-200mm F4 G or a Sony 70-200mm F2.8GM , or stick to the Sony FE 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 GM if you don’t go often above 400mm

An unexpected strong point of this lens is the quality of its background blur which is very soft and pleasant and the compression effect you can get is stunning

Teleconverters can be used but they will only work well on A9, if you have a A7RIII , just use the APSC crop mode if you need more zoom than the 600mm or use a 6400 as a secondary body

• Very good bokeh balls in general
• No CA
• Very good resistance to flare
• Compatible with TC1.4 & TC2.0 (especially on A9)
• Become 300-900mm on A6400 body

Average

• Big : you may need a bigger backpack
• Not the “top notch” AF you can find on latest Sony GM lenses with dual linear motor 
• Distorsion in pincushion and small vignetting : but Lightroom is correcting those automatically , so a non issue
• Minimum focusing distance at 2.4m (same for Sigma/Tamron alternatives)
• Weight : 2115g , standard for this kind of lens but this heavy for many people

Cons

• Small aperture makes usage of TCs problematic on A7RIII
• Small aperture means ISO climbing very fast
• Some purple fringing borders for bokeh balls in some cases on the side of the image

8 Conclusion

Le Sony FE200-600 GM OSS F5.6-F6.3 (2100 euros) est un excellent téléobjectif pour son prix et le premier de sa catégorie à offrir un zoom interne

Il sera idéal pour les photographes sportifs et animaliers qui ne peuvent s’offrir le Sony 400mm F2.8 GM ou le  Sony 600mm F4 GM (donc la plupart d’entre nous !) et pour ce genre de photos il donnera de meilleur résultats que le Sony FE 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 GM à la fois en terme de piqué et de facilité d’utilisation grâce à son zoom interne extrêmement facile à manipuler

Attention à la complémentarité avec votre parc d’objectifs , si vous n’avez que un Sony 24-70 F2.8 GM ou un Sony 24-105mm F4 vous aurez un trou entre 70 et 200mm à moins de render un  Sony 70-200mm F4 G ou un Sony 70-200mm F2.8GM , ou de rester sur le  Sony FE 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 GM si vous n’allez pas souvent au delà de 400mm

Un point fort inattendu de cette optique est la qualité de son flou d’arrière plan qui m’a surpris : il est très doux et plaisant pour des portraits et l’effet de compression obtenu est très beau

Les Téléconvertisseurs 1.4 et 2.0 peuvent être utilisés mais ils ne seront pleinement opérationnels que sur le A9. Si vous avez un A7RIII il vaudra mieux utilizer le mode crop APSC de celui pour aller au dela de 600mm ou investir dans un A6400 comme second boitier

• Compatible avec les TC1.4 & TC2.0 (spécialement sur le A9)
• Devienrt un 300-900mm sur boitier A6400

Moyen

• Optique volumineuse qui imposera un grand sac a dos pour le transport
• Ne dispose pas de l’AF le plus évolué et le plus récent disponible sur les derniers GM (double moteur AF linéaire)
• Distorsion en coussinet et léger vignette mais automatique corrigé par Lightroom donc pas un réel problème
• Distance minimum de mise au point de 2,4m (comparable aux optiques équivalentes concurrentes)
• Poids de 2115g , dans la moyenne de ce genre d’objectif mais lourd pour la plupart des gens

Contre

• Faible ouverture qui rend l’utilisation des Tas problématique avec le Sony A7RIII
• Faible ouverture qui impose une rapide montée en ISO
• Quelques bords pourpres pour les ronds de Bokeh en périphérie dans certains cas
