Viltrox has an extended range of series for APSC / Viltrox dispose d’une gamme de focales fixes APSC très étendue

EVO series (F1.8) : high end performance , excellent ergonomics, medium price (400-450 euros) and compact / Haute performance , excellente ergonomie, prix moyen (400-450 euros) , compact

Pro series (F1.2) : ultimate performance and ergonomics , more expensive (650 euros), fat and heavy, ultimate bokeh /performances ultimes, excellente ergonomie, plus cher (650 euros), plus gros et lourd, bokeh ultime

The Viltrox 90mm F2.2 EVO has very good build quality and weather sealing. It is quite compact and light and will fit easily on a gimbal . It is the equivalent of a 135mm F4 full frame lens.

The ergonomics are very good with all required controls (AF/MF, click/clickless, focus hold ) and a smooth aperture ring

There is a USB-C port for firmware upgrade (you can download them here )

The min focusing distance is short at 74cm

La qualité de construction du Viltrox 90mm F2.2 est très bonne, il dispose d’une construction tout temps. L’objectif est compact et assez léger, il tiendra sans problème sur une gimbal. Le rendu est celui d’un equivalent 135mm F4 en plein format

L’ergonomie est très bonne avec tous les contrôles nécessaires (AF/MF , avec ou sans clics, bouton personnalisable et bague d’ouverture avec ou sans clics qui tourne très facilement

L’optique dispose d’un port USB C pour les mise à jour ici

La distance min de mise au point est de 74cm ce qui est assez court

AF is very good : efficient, fast and silent in most cases, no issue in burst mode

Video results are excellent with excellent sharpness , smooth background blur very good color rendering and AF. The clickless aperture rings allows for smooth operations. Size and weight make it perfect on a gimbal

Focus breathing is medium

The Viltrox 75mm F1.2 is by far the heaviest, the most expensive and the biggest. It is also the one with the best ergonomics , best build quality and with the largest aperture

  • In term of background blur, bokeh balls, Color Rendition, the Viltrox 75mm F1.2 is outperforming all the other lenses, its only drawback is its longer min focusing distance, the 75mm F1.8 and the 90mm F2.2 especially have the advantage to have a shorter min focusing distance and therefore
  • En terme de flou d’arrière plan, ronds de bokeh, rendu des couleurs , le Viltrox 75mm F1.2 surpasse toutes les autres optiques, son seul point faible étant sa longue distance min de mise au point. Conclusion

  • The Viltrox 75mm F1.8 is almost more desirable than the F1.2 , it has same excellent performance it is cheaper , lighter and more compact. only if you intend to shoot most of the time at F1.2 the F1.2 is justified, the 90mm is also very good but the 75mm is a bit better
  • Le Viltrox 75mm F1.8 est l’optique qui est la plus équilibré, elle offre le meme niveau de performance que le F1.2 dans un forma plus compact et léger et est moins chère. A moins d’utiliser majoritairement l’ouverture F1.2 , le F1.8 reste le maitre achat. Le 90mm F2.2 est aussi très bon mais un poil en dessous du 75mm

6 Conclusion (English)

The Viltrox 90mm F2.2 (369$ / 429 euros) is an excellent portrait lens for APSC : Excellent to Outstanding sharpness, excellent bokeh balls , soft background blur, very good color rendition and very good AF. Compact , light , excellent ergonomics , reasonable price

Its main competitor if the Viltrox 75mm F1.8 that is a very similar but a tiny bit better
