L’objectif est assez compact mais semble dense en main (poids moyen)

La qualité de construction est très bonne. L’ergonomie est excellente avec tous les boutons possibles et une bague d’ouverture avec ou sans clics

Il y a un joint de protection a la base l’objectif. Le firmware de l’objectif peut entree mis à jour via un port usb C

La distance min de mise au point est très courte à 74cm pour un 85mm

Performances AF

• L’AF est rapide, précis . Pour de la rafale aucun problème
• L’AF sur les yeux fonctionne très bien

2.1 Sharpness / Piqué

• In the centre : the sharpness is very good and even excellent in some cases and become excellent as of F2.8, outstanding at F4
• In the corners : sharpness is very good at 2 and also reach excellence as of F2.8
• Globally a very good performance

2.2 Vignetting , chromatic aberrations , distortion, flare, sunstars

• Vignetting is strong at F2 and disappears at F11 only
• Distortion is moderate in pincushion
• Chromatic aberrations are low
• LoCA are quite strong
• Resistance to flare is very good
• At F16 we can get sunstars

2.2 Vignettage, aberrations chromatiques, distorsion, flare, effets d’étoiles

• Le vignettage est important à F2 et disparait seulement vers F11

4 Comparison with other 85mm F1.8

There more than 12 85mm F1.8 with AF in E mount !

if we need to zoom on the one that have the same form factor then only the Samyang 85mm F1.8 P come close to it

closest competitor for the are the 7 Artisans 85mm F1.8 (299$), the Meike 85mm F1.8 STM (200$), AstrHori 85mm F1.8 (276$) the Yongnuo YN85mm F1.8S DF DSM (345$) and the Viltrox 85mm F1.8 PFU RMBH STM which at 380 euros are 1.5x more expensive than the Meike! The reference being the Sony FE85mm F1.8 (600 euros) almost 3 times more expensive

From a specifications perspective the Samyang is the lightest and most compact but the Viltrox is very close in term of size. The Brightin Star & Astrhori the heaviest

The 7Artisans and Brightin star and Meike Pro , Astrhori have an aperture ring, but the Viltrox EVO is the only one with a click/clickless aperture ring

Sony and Samyang are the “most” expensive at around 450 euros vs 300 euros for the majority of the others

Globally the Viltrox EVO is one of the smallest , the cheapest and the ones with the best ergonomics and among the best in term of build quality, the one with the smallest min focusing distance and one of the best for AF

D’un point de vue spécifications, le Samyang est le plus léger et le plus compact, suivi de près par le Viltrox 85mm F2 EVO, tandis que les Brightin Star et AstrHori sont les plus lourds

Background Blur & Bokeh Balls / Flous d’arrière plan et Ronds de Bokeh

• The 7 Artisans / Brightin Star/Viltrox EVO have the best bokeh balls shapes followed by the Viltrox 85mm F1.8 PFU RMBH STM, Sony FE85mm F1.8, then the AstrHori and at the end the Meike 85mm F1.8 STM / Samyang and Meike 85mm F1.8 Pro, the Yongnuo YN85mm F1.8S DF DSM is the least good one
• For Background blur softness the Viltrox EVO, Samyang,, 7Artisans , the Viltrox 85mm F1.8 PFU RMBH STM , the Meike 85mm F1.8 STM and the Yongnuo YN85mm F1.8S DF DSM & the Meike Pro are very close , Brightin Star is a little bit less soft , the less good one being the Sony FE85mm F1.8
• The Color rendering is very good on most of them but the Samyang 85mm F1.8 is maybe a tiny bit better to my taste, the 7 Artisans is good but not very good to my taste

• Le Rendu des Couleurs est très bon sur la plupart des optiques mais le Samyang 85mm F1.8 est un petit peu meilleur à mon goût et le 7Artisans n’est que “bon”

Portraits

• All lenses are very good for rendering portraits, with a little preference for the Samyang, Brightin Star, Meike Pro and the Viltrox

• The Meike 85mm F1.8 STM is the least good on in term of CA / Resistance to flare / contrast with incident light

Distorsion / AC / Vignettage / Flare

• Les 7 Artisans 85mm F1.8, Samyang, Viltrox EVO, Brightin Star, Meike pro, Meike 85mm F1.8 STM , Yongnuo YN85mm F1.8S DF DSM montrent le même fort vignettage
• Le Meike 85mm F1.8 STM est le moins bon en terme d’AC et de résistance au flare et de sensibilité à la lumière incidente directe

Autofocus

The Yongnuo YN85mm F1.8S DF DSM , Samyang 85mm F1.8 , Viltrox EVO and the Sony FE85mm F1.8 are very close and excellent, with the Sony having still a tiny edge over the others. The Viltrox 85mm F1.8 PFU RMBH STM and 7 Artisans are very good and the 2 Meike and the Brightin star are a bit less than the Viltrox F1.8 but still very good. The AstrHori 85mm F1.8 has a bad AF

Le Yongnuo YN85mm F1.8S DF DSM , Viltrox EVO, Samyang 85mm f1.8 et le Sony FE85mm F1.8 sont très proches et excellents , le Sony etant légèrement mieux. Le Viltrox 85mm F1.8 PFU RMBH STM le 7 Artisans, et Brightin Star sont très bons, suivis un peu plus loin par les 2 Meike. Le AstrHori 85mm F1.8 n’est pas bon en AF

The Viltrox 85mm F2 EVO (275$ / 319 euros) is a little gem : it is one of the most compact 85mm available, has the best ergonomics among more than 12 competitors , it has very good to excellent sharpness, very good bokeh balls, soft background blur, very good AF , very good flare resistance, very low CA

On the improvements point : LoCA , Strong vignetting, moderate distortion & focus breathing

It will be perfect on a A7CII or A7CR

Le Viltrox 85mm F2 EVO (275$ / 319 euros) est un petit bijou: c’est une des 85mm F2 les plus compact du marché, il a la meilleure ergonomie parmi plus de 12 concurrents. Les performance sont très bonnes globalement : très bon à excellent piqué , très beaux ronds de bokeh , flou d’arrière plan doux, très bon AF , très bon rendu des couleurs, très bonne qualité de construction, très bonne résistance eau flare, faible niveau d’AC

Dans les points d’améliorations : les AC longitudinales, le vignettage, la distortion modérée et le focus breathing

Il sera parfait sur un A7CII ou A7CR
