The Lens is quite heavy and long for a wide angle.

Build quality is very good all in metal. The aperture ring can be set to click or clickless. The min focusing distance is very long for a wide angle

As all ultra wide angle you can’t put a filter on the front lens , but thanks to the lens hood you can screen a thin 77mm filter if needed

L’objectif est de taille et poids assez élevé pour un ultra grand angle

La qualité de construction est très bonne tout en métal. La bague d’ouverture est avec ou sans clics. La distance min de mise au point est très élevé pour un ultra grand angle

Comme tout les ultra grand angle on ne peut pas mettre de filtre sur la lentille frontale, mais grâce au pare soleil , l’optique permet d’utiliser un filtre fin de 77mm

  • In the centre : the sharpness is good wide open and reach excellence at F5.6
  • Short to medium distance : Corners are bad and only reach good level at f5.6
  • Long distance : corners are average to good wide open but don’t get any better than good
  • Globally a below average performance

  • At F16 we can get some sunstars but they are not super well defined

3 Video

  • In video we get nice results in term of sharpness, no distortion . The color rendition is good , resistance to flare is quite bad which produce a bit too much halos
  • The clickless aperture ring is convenient for video
  • Focus breathing is very low

From a specification perspective the Viltrox is by far the cheapest and lightest but is only F4

Among the F2.8 The 7 artisans and the Pergear are the cheapest,

Most of them are above 500g

The Pergear , 7 Artisans and NiSi support traditional filters

The 7 Artisans 14mm F2.8 (329 euros) is a standard 14mm MF lens Globally performance are good if you close down to F5.6, no distortion, no focus breathing. Color rendition is good

The improvement points are the sharpness wide open specially in the corners, the corners sharpness in general, the bad resistance to flare and the very long min focusing distance

Alternatives

The Viltrox 15mm F4 Air at 199$ is much cheaper, lighter, smaller and sharper and it has AF. it has a much shorter min focusing distance that allow to have a real background blur and Bokeh balls

Le Viltrox 15mm F4 Air a 199$ est beaucoup moins cher, beaucoup plus léger et compact et nettement plus piqué et dispose de l’AF. De plus la distance min de mise au point est très courte ce qui lui permet d’avoir un vrai flou d’arrière plan et des ronds de bokeh
