The Sigma 12mm F1.4 DC is the very first 12mm F1.4 for APSC whereas most of competitors offers F1.8 or F2.8 . It is a light and compact lens, the build quality is very good and the lens is equipped with only an aperture ring with clicks. It is a pity we don’t have a AF/MF, a focus hold button & a switch to go to clikcless

Le Sigma 12mm F1.4 DC est le premier 12mm pour APSC qui atteint le F1.4, les autres concurrents offrent en general du F2.8 et au mieux du F1.8. Il est léger et compact. La qualité de construction est très bonne . L’optique est équipée d’une bague d’ouverture avec clics. Malheureusement pas de bouton AF/MF ni de switch pour le sans clics, ni de bouton de maintien de mise au point

  • You get some nice sunstars when closed at F16

  • The background blur is nice and soft for a wide angle lens but of course can be more nervous with busy background
  • The color rendition is very good

  • Le flou d’arrière plan est très doux et agréable pour un grand angle mais bien entendu peut devenir plus nerveux avec des arrières plans fouillis

Very good results in video : excellent sharpness , background blur is smooth wide open. AF is efficient and quick and silent. Colors rendition is very good. The focus breathing is close to zeo

The focal length + small and light form factor make it also ideal for Vlog and for gimbal.

Les résultats sont très bons en vidéo avec un excellent piqué, un flou d’arrière plan doux, un très bon rendu des couleurs et un AF efficace rapide et silencieux. Le focus breathing est proche de zero

Sa compacité et sa longueur focale en font également une optique idéale pour du Vlog et sur une gimbal

The Sony is the lightest and most compact but also by far the most expensive

The Sigma has the best aperture and is one of the most expensive with the Sony

Although the Yongnuo has the best centre sharpness of all, its corners only become good at F5.6. The Sony 11mm F1.8 is very good at f1.8 and excellent at F2.8 and its corners are already very good at F2.8. The Sigma 10-18mm F2.8 DC DN offers excellent performances from centre to corners

Le Sigma 12mm F1.4 is bien au dessous des autres optiques

Bien que le Yongnuo offre le meilleur piqué au centre de tous les objectifs , ses coins ne deviennent bon que vers F5.6. Le Sony est très bon à F1.8 et excellent à F2.8 avec des coins déjà très bons à F2.8. Le Sigma 10-18mm F2.8 DC DN offre d’excellents performances du centres aux coins

The Sigma 12mm F1.4 provides the best results globally in term of sharpness consistency + smoothness of background blur and best bokeh balls, followed by the Sony 11mm F1.8 If you don’t need the F1.8 aperture the Sigma 10-18mm F2.8 DC DN is excellent and very versatile

The Yongnuo has the best price performance ratio and is excellent in term of centre sharpness and ergonomics. Its only weaknesses are the corners that need an aperture of F5.6 to reach good level. The Samyang is less good than the Yongnuo and more expensive

Le Sigma 12mm f1.4 fournit les meilleurs résultats globalement en terme de consistance sur tout le champ + douceur du flou d’arrière plan, suivi par le Sony 11mm F1.8 . Si on a pas besoin d’une ouverture F1.8 , Le Sigma 10-18mm F2.8 DC DN est excellent et très polyvalent.

Le Yongnuo a le meilleur rapport prix performances et est excellent en terme de piqué au centre et en terme d’ergonomie. Sa seule faiblesse est le piqué dans les coins qui ne devient bon qu’à F5.6. Le Samyang est moins bon et plus cher

The Sigma 12mm F1.4 (599 euros), if the very first F1.4 wide angle for APSC, it is a little gem : light and compact, excellent sharpness on the entire frame, very good Af, color rendering, bokeh , resistance to flare and sunstars and an aperture ring

Alternatives

  • The Yongnuo YN 11mm F1.8S DA DSM WL (261$), excellent globally with as only weaknesses corners sharpness wide open
  • The Sony 11mm F1.8 provide the best results globally in term of sharpness consistency + smoothness of background blur and best bokeh balls.
  • If you don’t need the F1.8 aperture the Sigma 10-18mm F2.8 DC DN is excellent and very versatile

Le Sigma 12mm F1.4 (599 euros), est le premier grand angle F1.4 pour APSC: c’est une vrai réussite – compact, léger, avec une bague d’ouverture, excellent piqué sur tout la champ, très bon, Af, rendu des couleurs, bokeh , flou d’arrière plan, résistance au flare.
