The 7 Artisans 10mm F3.5 is nearly a pancake lens , the build quality is good. The aperture ring is with click and has color like old Nikon lenses. The focusing ring is thin and turns on 90° to go from 20cm to infinity

The 10mm on APSC is the equivalent of a 15 mm on a full frame so ideal for landscape, architecture or astrophotography but it small size and angle of view makes it also ideal on a gimbal and for vlog

Le 7 Artisans 10mm F3.5 est une optique très légère et compacte, la qualité de construction est bonne. La bague d’ouverture est avec clics et est colorée comme sur les anciennes optiques Nikon. La bague de mise au point est fine et tourne sur 90°pour passer de 20cm à l’infini

Les 10mm sur APSC sont un équivalent de 15mmm sur plein format et sera donc idéal pour du paysage, de l’architecture ou de l’astrophotographie. Son poids et son grand angle le rend également idéal sur une gimbal ou pour du vlog

2.1 Sharpness / Piqué

The tests were made on a Sony A6600 with its 24 Mpix

  • In the centre , wide open, the results are very good and become excellent when closing down to F5.6
  • The corners are average and never get good

2.2 Vignetting / chromatic aberrations / distortion / flare

  • Distortion is low in barrel
  • Vignetting is important wide open , it reduces when closing but do not disappears
  • Chromatic aberrations are low
  • Resistance to flare is bad with big halos
  • You get some nice sunstars when closed at F16

2.2 Vignettage / aberrations chromatiques / distorsion / flare

  • La distorsion est faible en barillet
  • Le vignettage est très important à F4, il se réduit mais ne disparait pas complètement
  • Les aberrations chromatiques sont faibles
  • La résistance au flare est mauvaise avec des halos circulaires
  • On obtient de beaux effets d’étoiles en fermant à F16

  • The background blur is nervous
  • The color rendition is good

Good results in video : very good sharpness , good color rendition in general but high sensitivity to flare. The focus breathing is quite important

The focal length + small and light form factor make it also ideal for Vlog and for gimbal.

Les résultats sont bons en vidéo avec un très bon piqué, un bon rendu des couleurs en général mais une forte sensibilité au flare. Le focus breathing est assez important

There are many primes lenses between 9 and 11mm , I only selected a few for the comparison

The Sony 11mm F1.8 Laowa 9mm F2.8 Zero D , Meike 10mm F2 & Samyang 10mm F2.8 ED AS NCS CS are the best in term of sharpness on the entire field. The Yongnuo YN 11mm F1.8S DA DSM WL is just after. The Laowa 10mm F4 Cookie and 7 Artisans 10mm F3.5 are very good to excellent in the centre but corners are average

Le Sony 11mm F1.8, Laowa 9mm F2.8 Zero D , Meike 10mm F2 , et Samyang 10mm F2.8 ED AS NCS CS sont les meilleurs en terme de piqué sur tout le champ.   • The Laowa 9mm F2.8 is the worst in term of vingetting, sSony is the best one
  • The Sony is the best in term of resistance to flare and Chromatic aberrations

4.6 Conclusion

The Sony 11mm F1.8 provide the best results globally in term of sharpness consistency + smoothness of background blur and best bokeh balls. The Laowa 9mm F2.8 Zero D seems overpriced compared to the Sony. The New Laowa 10mm F4 cookie is good but quite expensive (409 euros) compared to the Sony (600 euros) so it will target the one that really want a pancake lens

Le Sony 11mm F1.8 fournit les meilleurs résultats globalement en terme de consistance sur tout le champ + douceur du flou d’arrière plan. Le Laowa 9mm F2.8 Zero D est à un prix exagéré par rapport au Sony. Le nouveau Laowa 10mm F4 , fournit de bonne performances mais ne justifie pas son prix de 409 euros par rapport au Sony (600 euros) , sauf si l’aspect pancake est un critère essentiel à vos yeux

6 Conclusion (English)

The 7 Artisans 10mm F3.5 cookie (105 euros) is a very cheap, nice compact lens wide angle lens for Sony APSC camera. It will be ideal for Landscape, Architecture, Street

Results are very good to excellent in the centre but corners are mostly average and never get better than good at F11. Color rendition is good and distortion is very low .

The lens however suffer from heavy vignetting and bad resistance to flare with strong halos

Build quality and handling is good and its low profile and low weight will make it very handy to stay discrete, compact or on a gimbal.

Alternatives

  • The Sony 11mm F1.8 (600 euros) provide the best results globally in term of sharpness consistency + smoothness of background blur and best bokeh balls.
  • The Meike 10mm F2 (449$) is much bigger, brighter but has excellent sharpness on the entire frame
  • The Yongnuo YN 11mm F1.8S DA DSM WL (261$) is a very balanced lens : very good sharpness, ergonomics, bokeh, medium size and weight and reasonable price
  • The Laowa 9mm F2.8 Zero D seems overpriced compared to the Sony.

Le 7 Artisans 10mm F3.5 cookie (105 euros) est une optique grand angle bon marché , légère et compacte pour les boitiers Sony APSC. Elle sera idéale pour du paysage, de l’architecture de la photo de rue

Les résultats sont très bon à excellents au centre mais les coins sont assez moyens et ne deviennent au mieux bon que vers F11. Le rendu des couleurs est bon et la distorsion très faible. L’optique souffre néanmoins d’un vignettage très élevé et d’une mauvaise résistance au flare

La qualité de construction est bonne et sa taille et son poids mini le feront très discret , aisé à ranger et facile à utiliser sur une gimbal

Alternatives

  • Le Sony 11mm F1.8 (600 euros) fournit les meilleurs résultats globalement en terme de consistance sur tout le champ + douceur du flou d’arrière plan.
  • Le Meike 10mm F2 (449$) est nettement plus gros , plus milieux et a un excellent piqué sur tout le champ
  • Le Yongnuo YN 11mm F1.8S DA DSM WL (261$) est une optique très équilibrée : très bon piqué, ergonomie , bokeh , taille et paid moyen et prix très raisonnable
  • Le Laowa 9mm F2.8 Zero Dest à un prix exagéré par rapport au Sony.
