1 Presentation

1.1 Introduction

Samyang has 10 manual lenses for Sony APSC bodies with E mount like A6000: 6 out of 10 were specially designed for mirrorless and achieve globally very good performances with a small size and reasonable price. All have been tested here. 

The Samyang 10mm was initially designed for APSC DSLR, hence its big size resulting from the addition of an adaptor

Samyang dispose de près de 10 objectifs manuel pour les boitiers Sony E APS-C comme le A6000. 6 de ces 10 objectifs ont été spécialement conçus pour les hybrides et présentent globalement de très bonne performances avec un format assez compact et un prix raisonnable

Le Samyang 10mm F2.8 ED AS NCS CS a lui été conçu initialement pour des reflex APS-C, d’où sa taille qui résulte de l’ajout d’un adapteur pour les hybrides

This is a fully manual lenses with aperture control on the lens (with click) and manual focusing ring, No Exif are transmitted to the body

The build quality is very good with the lens barrel all in metal with a plastic rubbered ring for manual focus

There is a very useful hyperfocal scale engraved. 

Manual focusing is very easy with an adequate dampening of the focusing ring

C’est une optique entièrement manuelle avec contrôle de l’ouverture par bague sur l’objectif et bague de mise au point manuelle. Pas d’exif transmis au boitier

La qualité de construction est très bonne , l’objectif est tout en métal avec la bague de mise au point en plastique nervuré

Il y a une échelle de profondeur de champ très utile

La bague de mise au point a un niveau de fluidité/résistance idéale pour une mise au point manuelle

2 Optical performances / Performances optiques

2.1 Sharpness / Piqué

The tests were made on a Sony A6000 with its 24 Mpix, to check image crop with good quality look at full size pictures here : Samyang 10mm F2.8 ED AS NCS CS

• Centre :   Excellent as of F2.8 and until F8, very good at F11, diffraction at F16
• Borders :  Very good from F2.8-F4, Excellent at F5.6 and F8, very good at F11, diffraction at F16

• Centre : Excellent de F2.8 jusque F8, Très bon à F11, diffraction à F16
• Coins : Très Bon à F2.8-F4, Excellent à F5.6-F8 , Très bon à F11, diffraction à F16

2.2 Lens Fall off / chromatic aberrations / distorsion

• Lens fall off : There is some visible light fall off at F2.8 but it become very low at F4
• Chromatic aberrations are very low 
• Distorsion : there is some barrel distorsion that will be visible on architectural subjects
• No flare, no loss of contrast when facing the sun
• Nice sunstar effects when close down to F11

There is a Lightroom lens profile to be selected manually as no Exif  that corrects fully the distorsion 

2.2 Vignettage / aberrations chromatiques / distorsion

• Le vignettage : visible à F2.8 il disparait vers F4
• Les aberrations chromatiques sont très faibles
• Distorsion : il y a une distorsion en barillet visible sur les sujets architecturaux
• Pas de flare ou de perte de contraste avec le soleil en direct
• Beaux effets d’étoiles en fermant à F11

Il y a un profil d’objectif Lightroom à sélectionner manuellement (car pas d’Exif) qui permet de corriger entièrement la distorsion

2.3 Bokeh  / Color Rendition – Bokeh / Rendu des Couleurs

• At min focusing distance (24cm) and F2.8  you can achieve some blurry background that are quite soft and very well rendered
• Color rendition is very good.
• A la distance minimale de mise au point (24cm) et F2.8 on obtient de beaux flous d’arrière plan assez doux
• Le rendu des couleurs est très bon

3 Video

In video the Samyang performs very well with its large manual focusing ring that is easy to operate. Unfortunately the aperture ring is not clickless

En vidéo le Samyang se comporte très bien avec une large bague de mise au point agréable à utiliser. Malheureusement la bague d’ouverture est avec clics

5 Conclusion

The Samyang 10mm F2.8 ED AS NCS CS is an excellent wide angle for your Sony APS-C body

Pros

• Excellent sharpness
• Very good blurry background and color rendering
• Distorsion corrected completely in Lightroom
• Easy to operate focusing ring
• No chromatic aberrations or flare
• Reasonable price : 519 euros but you can find it regularly around 400 euros

Cons

• Heavy (620 g) and big (132mm) as designed orginally for DSLR
• No clikcless aperture ring for video

Highly recommended if you want a quality wide angle for your A6000 and can sustain its size and weight

5 Conclusion

Le Samyang 10mm F2.8 ED AS NCS CS est une excellente optique grand angle pour votre boitier Sony APS-C

Pour

• Piqué excellent
• Très beau flou d’arrière plan et très beau rendu des couleurs
• Distorsion corrigée par Lightroom
• Bague de mise au point très agréable
• Pas d’aberrations chromatique ou de flare
• Prix raisonnable (519 euros) au vu de sa qualité et promo régulière qui le mette à 400 euros

Contre

• Lourd (620 g) et imposant (132mm) car conçu pour boitier reflex
• Pas de bague d’ouverture sans clics pour la vidéo

C’est tout simplement le meilleur grand angle dispo sur Sony APS-C si vous savez vivre avec sa taille et son poids.
