The FE100-400 is doing quite well in video with a quite reliable AF and with beautiful blurry background between 200 to400mm but as you can see in the video below, even with stabilisation , it will be wiser to use a tripod with a very good fuid video ball head for anything above 200mm

Mounted on a A6500 + TC 2 it would give an equivalent of a 1200mm F/11 !!

Le FE100-400 s’en sort bien en vidéo avec un AF assez fiable et de beaux flous d’arrières plans entre 200 et 400mm. Mais comme vous pouvez le constater sur la video ci dessous il sera plus sage d’adopter un monopole ou un bon trépied avec bonne rotule vidéo fluide

Monté sur un A6500 et avec le TC 2.0 songez qu’on se retrouve avec un 1200mm F11 !

8 Conclusion

The FE100-400 GM OSS F4.5-F5.6 is a excellent lens that well deserve the G Master label

• It is very sharp from center to corner, at all focal lengths
• On the range 100-200mm it is neck to neck with the 70-200GM
• Its weight , handling and build construction are very good
• AF speed is very fast, and especially reliable when coupled with the A9
• It has beautiful blurry background effects between 200 and 400mm with a good bokeh
• It can without any issue ,support a TC1.4, keeping very high quality and a good handling
• The usage of the TC2.0 will be best with a sturdy tripod and good ball head
• In video, considering the very long focal length, a tripod or monopod is a must

Of course I would have love to have a F4 at 400mm but this would be a much more heavy and costly lens

The lens is a clear winner and is a must have for sports shooting , wildlife, and distants portraits

So what should you choose : as usual it depends of your practice and budget

• The 70-300G (1400 euros) is still a very good lens for a A7II but it show clearly its limit on a A7RII with 42 Mpix
• The 70-200GM (2900 euros) will be the perfect lens for not so distant portrait, for weddings,  for studio, for family, it support without any issue the 42Mpix
• The 100-400GM (2900 euros) will be the perfect telezoom for a trip, to capture distant portraits, actions sports, wildlife , it support without any issue the 42Mpix of the A7RII

8 Conclusion

Le FE100-400 GM OSS F4.5-F5.6 est un très bel objectif qui mérite de faire partie de la série des G Master

• Le piqué est excellent à très bon sur tout le champ et à toutes les focales
• Sur la plage de focales 100-200mm il est au coude à coude avec le  70-200GM
• La construction est de grande qualité, l’équilibre est très bon et le poids raisonnable
• L’autofocus est très rapide, sa précision sera encore accrue sur un A9
• Il produit de beaux flous d’arrières plans entre 200 and 400mm
• Il supporte sans aucun souci le TC 1.4 : le piqué restant très bon , l’AF tout aussi efficace et l’équilibre en main toujours très bon
• Son utilisation avec le TC2.0 demandera un très bon trépied bien stable et une bonne rotule
• en vidéo le monopode ou le trépied seront obligatoires vu les très longues focales

Bien sur j’aurais aimé avoir un F4 à 400mm mais alors à quel prix et quel poids?

Le FE 100-4000 est un essentiel pour les photos de sports, animalière ou les portraits distants

Que choisir ? Comme d’habitude cela dépend de votre usage et de votre budget

• Le  70-300G (1400 euros) est un très bon objectif pour un A7II mais il montre clairement ses limites sur un A7RII de 42Mpix
• Le 70-200GM (2900 euros) sera le parfait compagnon pour les mariages, les portraits candides , le studio, les événements familiaux. il supporte sans problème les 42mpix du A7RII
• Le 100-400GM (2900 euros) sera le telezoom parfait pour le voyage , pour capturer les portraits lointains, pour tous les sports, et pour toutes les photos animalières. il supporte sans problème les 42mpix du A7RII
